In the grief class I'm taking, we were all asked to contribute all the unhelpful comments made by people in our time of grief, and you'd be amazed how long the list was.

Things like, "Well at least s/he's not suffering anymore", or "Well, at least s/he's in heaven" or stuff like that. Like you said, true, but that doesn't ease the pain and the grief of losing someone.

Then we were asked to write down helpful things, like "You will get through this even if it doesn't seem like it right now", or "You must have love him/her very much", or "you must miss him/her desperately".

People just don't know what to say; they're uncomfortable, for the most part, with others' grief.

I'm sorry you have had such a string of losses in such a short amount of time. I know you have big empty places in your heart... and I know you are trusting God for the healing.

It will come... for both of us....

Just because you know you'll see your loved ones again doesn't mean the grief isn't real right now... there's still the constant, everyday loss.

No but I wish I was. I did just join Keepers of the Home however. Do you have a chapter that meets there? i totally recommend it. Though I haven't had the losses you've had, I do feel like I've disconnected form so much since I first moved back to idaho... I am starting (slowly) to see how I've done this to myself. Maybe as a way to not have to cope and deal. I don't know...

My wonderful friend. Remember that you are never alone, those who love you are many. Your heartaches and sorrows are heard and taken to heart. I hope you find peace, but the journey to healing has to be taken. It cannot be bypassed or avoided. Thank you for being brave enough and open enough about your pain.

How is it we can live states away and yet somehow, we are living the same life at 2 separate times?

Gosh, my heart is so full right now over your post and mainly because I've been there, right there in your shoes, deaths and my parents scary health problems and near deaths, our church went down the crapper, and our positions not only being told to vacate, but our pews too.....

It's so strange to look back over that time and wonder how in the world I got through it. How did I continue surviving when all I wanted to do was go to sleep. I was doing everything RIGHT, how did it all go so WRONG??

And now, on THIS side of it, God carried me through, probably with lots of kicking and screaming on my part...but somehow, I made it. I never cease to be amazed by it. Something so dark and so ugly...He called me and walked me through it.

Alexis, my sweet friend, I'm praying for you. Feel it. Know it. And live through it too. I'll be waiting on the other side for you. ;)
